Michael Shinn

Pianist Michael Shinn has appeared across the country and abroad in recital, as concerto soloist and chamber musician. He has performed with the Symphonies of Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Gadsden, and LaGrange, the Sewanee Festival Orchestra, and the New Millennium Festival Orchestra in Gijon, Spain.

Shinn studied piano with his father, Ronald Shinn, until going to The Juilliard School, where he holds both his Bachelor and Master of Music studying with Jerome Lowenthal and Herbert Stessin. He has attended the Tanglewood, Aspen, Sewanee, and New Millennium Festivals, where he has worked with Julian Martin, Blanca Uribe, Marc Durand, and Michael Gurt. Shinn is currently a Doctoral Candidate at the City University of New York, studying with Gary Hammond.

An active educator as much as a performer, Shinn regularly gives workshops and masterclasses throughout the country. As a co-founder and faculty member of the Vistamusic School in New York, Shinn enhances young musicians' learning experiences through interactive demonstrations and classes. He is also a Guest Artist for the Alabama State Council on the Arts, through which Shinn works with grade-school students in classroom settings to introduce them to the world of music.

Along with maintaining a large private studio in New York, Shinn is on both the College and Evening Division Faculties of The Juilliard School.
