Ying Xue

First prize winner of the 2007 Corpus Christi Competition, also capturing the "Jean ten Have Memorial Award for Violin Performance," Ying Xue has shown herself to be an accomplished and versatile young soloist. She is the second prize winner of the 2007 Waldo Mayo Violin Competition and the 2006 Hudson Valley String Competition, and the third prize winner of the 2004 China Golden Bell String Competition where she was the youngest participant.

Ms. Xue has performed as a soloist and chamber musican in the Beijing Music Hall, Canada's Calgary Leacock Hall, and Jordan Hall in Boston. She has played concertos with the China Nanning Symphony Orchestra, the China Jinfan Symphony Orchestra, and the China Yinfan Symphony Orchestra, and she has recorded professionally with the China Youngsters' Chamber Orchestra, playing "Winter" on their CD of The Four Seasons.

A passionate chamber musician, Ms. Xue is a member of the Laurel Quartet, an Honors Ensemble at New England Conservatory. She has performed with Roger Tapping, Vivian Weilerstein, Maria Lambros, and Alan Kay, while participating in the Yellow Barn Chamber Music Festival. Her coaches have included members of the Cleveland and Borromeo String Quartets as well as Patricia Zander and Roger Tapping. Ms. Xue has also participated in master classes with Kim Kashkashian, Erick Friedman, Ida Kavafian, Jian Wang, and members of the Tokyo and Cavani Quartets.

Ms. Xue began her violin studies at age 4 with Ai-Hua Liu. At age 18, she received a full scholarship to study at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where she has served as Concertmistress of the Conservatory's Sinfonietta and Symphony Orchestras. She is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree at NEC, where she studies with Donald Weilerstein.
