Gregorio Robino

Born in La Plata in Argentina, Gregorio Robino escaped the military junta with his parents early on. He found refuge, grew up, and discovered the cello in France.

He was awarded two "Premiers Prix a l'Unanimite" at the CNR d'Aubervilliers-la Corneuve, both for cello (in the studio of Miliau Faure) and for chamber music (in the studio of Jacques Saint-Yves). He then studied with Erwan Faure for two years at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, where he was awarded the "Diplome de Virtuosite" with honourable mention in 2000.

The same year, he attended the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he studied with Jean-Marie Gamard, and was awarded the "Premier Prix de Violoncelle" with honourable mention. While at the Conservatoire, he also studied chamber music with Theodore Paraskivesco, Hae-sun Kang, Jean Mouillere, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Itamar Golan, and Fran¨ois Salque.

Gregorio Robino has also won awards at many international competitions, including second prize in the Brahms competition in Austria, fourth prize in the Georges Pretre de Douai competition, and a "Prix special" in the Domnick competition in Germany.

He has participated in several masterclasses, such as those at the Carl Flesch Akademie in Baden-Baden, Prussia Cove in England, Centre-d'arts Orford, and the Accademia Musicale of both Montepulciano and Florence in Italy, with such great soloists and teachers as Wolfgang Boettcher, Miklos Perenyi, Paul Katz, Arto Noras, Frans Helmersson, Harvey Shaprio, Steven Isserlis, Luis Claret, Bernard Greenhouse, Ralph Kirschbaum, and Laurence Lesser.

Gregorio Robino currently attends the Musikhochschule in Cologne, where he studies with Hans-Christian Schweiker. He appears occasionally with various orchestras, such as l'Orchestre National de France (under the direction of Kurt Masur, Emmanuel Krivine, and Ingo Metzmacher) and l'Orchestre National de l'Opera de Paris (under the direction of Kent Nagano, Valery Gergiev, and Christoph von Dohnanyi).

As a soloist, Gregorio Robino has appeared several times with l'Orchestre de Douai Region Nord/Pas-de-Calais and l'Orchestre de la Musikhochschule de Stuttgart, as well as with l'Ensemble Diaphonie, with whom he recently performed Dvorak's Cello Concerto at the Salle Gaveau in Paris. He has performed in such varied countries as Japan, Canada, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Finland.
