Brad Balliett

New York City-based bassoonist, composer and teaching artist Brad Balliett is gaining a reputation for innovative performance, composition, and programming. Born in 1982 and raised in Westborough, Massachusetts, Brad is principal bassoon of the Princeton Symphony, and appears regularly with groups in and around NYC, including Ensemble Signal, Metropolis Ensemble, Argento New Music, the New York City Ballet, Hartford Symphony, Ensemble ACJW, the Deviant Septet, and Decoda, of which he is a founding member and an artistic planner. Brad has also performed with International Contemporary Ensemble and Alarm Will Sound, and as principal bassoonist of the Houston Symphony and the American Ballet Theater.

As a composer, Brad's work is frequently commissioned and performed. Brad has been composer-in-residence with the Chelsea Music Festival and a Spotlight Artist in composition at the Lucerne Festival. A devoted teaching artist, Brad frequently performs creative community-based projects in hospitals, prisons, and shelters for Carnegie Hall and Decoda. Brad hosts a weekly radio show with his twin brother, Doug, for WQXR's Q2 Music. Brad is a summa cum laude graduate of Harvard University and has a Master's degree from Rice University.
