Enrico Chapela

Enrico Chapela studied at the Musical Education and Research Center (CIEM), obtaining degrees in guitar performing and compositional techniques, degrees endorsed by The Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (UK) and The Trinity College of London. Since the year 2000, he has devoted himself to composing with the support of grants bestowed by the National Fund for Arts and Culture (FONCA), and the Musical Education and Research Center (CIEM). From 2006 to 2009, he studied electro-acoustic music at the University of Paris Saint-Denis, with Horacio Vaggione and José Manuel López López, with a Master degree. He currently finishes his PhD in Musicology at the University of St. Denis, with Ivanka Stoianova and José Manuel López López.

Since the year 2002, several of his works have obtained recognition at national and international competitions. For instance, ínguesu was 'Recommended Work' at the International Rostrum of Composers of the UNESCO, 'Selected Work' at the Mexican Music Tribune, and 1st Prize Winner at the Alexander Zemlinsky Competition. La Mengambrea was 'Selected Work' at the Mexican Music Tribune, and received a Honorary mention at the ANACRUSAX Sax Quartet Composition Contest. La Condena was 'Selected Work' at the Latin America and Caribbean Music Tribune, 'Recommended Work' at the International Rostrum of Composers, and 'Selected Work' at the Mexican Music Tribune.

His music has been performed in Mexico, Costa Rica, United States, Canada, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Estonia and Greece, by performers such as the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, Percussion Group Cincinnati, Anacrusax, Cosmos sax quartet, Arditti string quartet, Carpentier string quartet, Gonzalo Salazar, Mauricio Náder, and Guilherme Carvalho.

He has been commissioned to compose music for Cuarteto Latinoamericano, ONIX ensemble, Lab 33 project, NYYD ensemble, New Paths in Music Festival, Carlos Chávez Symphony Orchestra, University of Cincinnati's CCM Symphony Orchestra, Dresden Sinfoniker, and The Los Angeles Philharmonic.

In 2006, Enrico Chapela released his first professional recording "ANTAGÓNICA" produced by CIEM-Consecuencias with the support of the National Fund for Arts and Culture (FONCA). This CD is performed by Gonzalo Salazar, Victor Flores, Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Bellas Artes Wind Trio, Mexico City Wind Quintet, Mexico City Brass Quintet, Tambuco Percussion Quartet and The Silvestre Revueltas Virtual Symphony Orchestra.

Given the UNESCO's Rostra where pieces such as La Condena, La Mengambrea, ínguesu, and Crucigramarepresented Mexico, and the fact of having pieces included in several CDs, Enrico Chapela's music has been broadcasted in more than 40 countries all over the world, such as: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Chili, Czech Republic, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Rumania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

He has been selected Fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation in 2010/11.
