Annie Stevens, originally from Houston, is currently a freelance percussionist and music educator in Chicago. She holds a Master of Music degree from Rutgers University and a Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University. In addition, Ms. Stevens completed a semester abroad at the Hochschule fur Musik in Detmold, Germany. She performed with the Detmold Chamber Orchestra on their tour throughout Germany as the principal timpanist in February of 2007. Annie is beginning graduate study this fall at the Eastman School of Music in pursuit of a Doctor of Musical Arts degree.

Annie performs extensively with many chamber groups engaged in commissioning new works as well as participating in educational outreach. Recently in Chicago, Annie performed with the Millennium Chamber Players and Sonic Inertia Performance Group. An advocate for new music, Annie has premiered numerous solo and chamber works as a member of Helix!, a scholarship group dedicated to performing new music at Rutgers University.  As a clinician and guest artist, Annie has appeared at Loyola University Chicago and Tyler Junior College in Tyler, TX. She has also brought the sounds of percussion to the classrooms of many grade schools in New Jersey and New York as a member of the Exit 9 Percussion Group.

Annie has made numerous appearances at recent events around the country. As a featured xylophone soloist, Annie performed both at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California and with the Rutgers Percussion Ensemble at St. Bart’s Cathedral in New York City.   She also completed a tour as a guest member of the Air Force Band of Mid-America and performed marimba transcriptions of piano works by Alexander Scriabin at the Russian Embassy in Washington D.C. 

Annie has been a part of many performances at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention from 2002 to 2005. In 2004, Annie was a finalist in the PAS classical vibraphone competition and performed at the convention in Nashville, Tennessee. Other concerts at the convention include a performance with marimba soloist, She-e Wu, and with both the Northwestern and Rutgers Percussion Ensembles’ showcase concerts.

Annie has attended the Apsen Music Festival, the National Orchestral Institute, and the Music Academy of the West.  Her teachers include Alan Abel, Michael Burritt, Peter Prommel, James Ross, and She-e Wu. Annie also appeared in the debut concert of the Metropolis Ensemble.
